Take Every Thought Captive

Is there anything more powerful than the amazing peace we experience in those moments when we surrender our will over to God and abide in His loving grace?  I want to say no, but I recognize a dynamic within me that keeps hijacking me out of this sweet spot of grace.  It happens just like that!  One minute I am basking in God’s loving grace, reveling in an amazing meadow of possibilities, abundance, and glory and before you know it, I am wallowing in fear, worry and despair!

I am learning to identify the culprit of this hijacking as thoughts, fueled by lies, that sweep across my mind and catapult me into a space filled with fear and anxiety.  The ability to identify this dynamic going on inside of my mind is helpful because I am then presented with a choice.  I can either cooperate (agree) with the lie and continue to wallow in fear and distress, or I can surrender to God and immediately experience His loving grace.  Hmmm….  Cooperate or Surrender.  Panic or Peace.  Fear or Faith.  When you simplify it like that, it seems like an obvious choice.  However, it is useful to acknowledge the illusion of power that fuels the lies and that we frequently allow to supersede God’s power in us.  Unchallenged, we all know that lies are powerful and destructive.  I believe that is why God says in 2Cor 10:5 that “we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” And  Romans 12:2  “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

I believe that there is nothing more powerful than abiding in Christ and we need to do Whatever It Takes to surrender to God’s authority in our lives.  God has the power to destroy lies and God has more power than the dynamic in us that cooperates with the illusion of truth disguised in lies.  God calls us to obedience because He wants to bless us!  Let yourself be blessed by tackling those nasty little lies, taking each one captive to the obedience of Christ – Whatever It Takes!
