Almost every day I wake up hungry for something: breakfast, fresh air, a cup of coffee, fellowship with friends, maybe even a few more minutes of sleep! But it is very easy to push aside the most important nourishment… finding word of His unfailing love. Telling Him of my trust in Him. Waiting so He can show me the way to live this day.
Yesterday I made a decision. Before going to bed I preprogrammed my coffee maker to have my cup of joe brewing before I woke up. A clean cup sat ready nearby. I set my alarm for an hour earlier than the norm and then I rehearsed my plan. This morning I got up, turned on the space heater in my study, got dressed, padded down the stairs to pick up my freshly brewed coffee and climbed back upstairs again to meet with my God. Ah… quiet and alone with Him.
He told me some things in my cozy spot! Like when I delight in His word I am like a tree by the water. I could envision that as I sipped on my coffee. I felt the warmth of His indwelling. I read that he watches over me and was right there with me! I lifted all my family up to Him and He showed me how to pray for them in Colossians 1:9-14. So I did – each one. I praised Him for being God and thanked Him for this lovely morning and asked for wisdom in my work this day.
Psalm 143:8:”Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” I felt assurance of that love and a sense of his being with me.
He was waiting to satisfy my soul hunger. I just needed to get out of bed and meet Him.
